What's this all about?
Hello all and welcome to my blog, which just happens to be named after a nickname for an incredibly flammable type of film fondly called Guncotton. On here I will review all the movies I see both in cinemas and on Netflix, and from time to time there'll be some extra commentaries from some fellow movie lovers.
Enjoy!

Intro
Guncotton. What a title for a blog, and indeed what a word in of itself. Today when one goes to the cinema to see a movie, film reels in most theatres have become a thing of the past, with digital copies of movies having replaced the clunky relics of Hollywood's 'golden age'. And yet what most people don't know is that there was another type of film reels before the classic ones, highly flammable and thus prone to setting cinemas and theatres alight (as showcased in the movie Inglorious Basterds). Famous for remaining on fire even when doused with water, its highly explosive nature lead to the creation of the film reels nickname : guncotton. This of course is very convenient for me, because naming a movie review blog Nitrate Film doesn't make sense. Funnily enough, I have probably spent more time in this past day trying to come up with a suitable title for this blog than I did actually convincing myself to write a blog in the first place. Those who know me know that I definitely watch far too many films for my own good, and that even more so I am very particular in the movies that I watch. When I arrived at The Ohio State University , I discovered that many people simply had never gotten around to seeing really great movies that one just assumes you have to see, like Forrest Gump. And so the predictable lists of movies I thought others should see went out to my friends. Their overwhelmingly positive reaction to the movies was so genuine that I realized that it's not that people don't watch movies, or don't have time to do so. It's rather that the majority of us, when given a free night have no idea what to watch except what clever marketing and the shiny "new releases" tab on Netflix tells us. And thus we find ourselves sitting on the couch with the cold realization that we technically paid for and actually watched the movie I Am Number Four ...on purpose. As we raise ourselves to turn off the the best part of the movie (the credits), turn off the lights and go to bed; our mind drifts back to the last time we actually stayed to watch the credits of a movie because it was good. We stayed not because we were hoping that there was something to salvage the ninety minutes of our lives that may have been lost as with the before mentioned film, but because we did not want our experience to end. The key in all of that is that the great movies are the ones that left us having experienced something and set fire to our emotions, leaving us to be glad spectators to plain awesomeness. While within this blog, I hope to uncover and review many movies of this kind, I will not be presumptuous enough to not give every movie its fair chance, and will review everything I see. Every week I will review one streamer on Netflix, or a movie from a running list of essentials. I will of course, also review the latest movies and documentaries to come to theatres as they arrive. I look forward to starting on this new venture with all of you, and if all goes well ,maybe this blog will catch on fire as easily as all that guncotten.
